The next gorgeous place in Jammu is MANSAR LAKE which is in SAMBA district is about 62km from Jammu. MANSAR is a lake which is covered by forest and hills, over a mile in length buy half a mile in width. It is also known by the name 'SURINSAR MANSAR LAKE'. This lake is designated as RAMSAR CONVENTION  in november 2005. It is a one of the most prominent picnic spot of  JAMMU AND KASHMIR in the Jammu region. Some people also says that it is an holy place by relating it with the MAHABHARATA.


History of this lake said that the son WARRIOR ARJUN and the daughter of KING NAG 'ULPI', named BABAR VAHAN, was the ruler of this region during the ancient times of MAHABHARTA. ARJUN proved his superiority over this land by performing the 'ASHWAMEGH YAGYA'. BABAR VAHAN made a tunnel with is arrow which was called SURANGSAR and now it is named as SURINSAR. After defeating SHESHNAAG and capturing the MANI, he came out of MANSAR. Very famous temples are situated near this lake which is on the bank of this lake. There is a temple of a snake god, SHESHNAAG. It is an belief that it is propitious for newly maried couples to seek blessings of SHESHNAAG by performing the three parikrama or a complete circling around the lake. 



There is also a wildlife sanctuary nearby where there is rear spices like NEELGAI, SPOTEED DEAR, PEACOCK etc. and water birds such as crane, ducks, etc. There is also a shortcut way to reach UDHAMPUR. There is also a small lake named SURINSAR which is connected to MANSAR LAKE whose distance is about 24km from JAMMU. It is also famous for its flora and fauna. The lake also houses around 207 species of algae, 7 species of fish and 15 species of waterfowl. 






There are many shops and samll stalls like ice cream, gol gappe, poori chana, etc. This place is also famous for voting. Many schools organise a picnic especially for boating on the basis of student wishes. This park has no entry fee but it have a parking fee 50 rupees. Its timing is 7 am to 5pm. The time required to give a round to this lake is 2-3 hours. It is really a very good place to visit with family and friends.

RANBIRESHWAR TEMPLE

                     RANBIRESHWAR TEMPLE Hi friends,                   My next most amazing experience is about RANBIRESHWAR TEMPLE. This temple is one of the most famous and biggest SHIV TEMPLE in Jammu. This temple was built by MAHARAJA RANBIR SINGH in 1883. It is very ancient shrine located in SHALIMAR road. This temple is decorated with the images of the LORD GANESHA, KARTIKEYA, NANDI BULL and highlight here is the mammoth 8 ft tall LORD SHIVA LINGAM which is made up of Black marble looming high in the sanctum of the temple.  This temple is enshrining 12 SHIVLINGS in crystal, measuring 15 cm to 38 cm and galleries with 1.25 lac 'bona lingam' which has  brought from NARMADA RIVER.                       RAGHUNATH TEMPLE Let me share my experience of the most precious place in Jammu region of J&K which is an HINDU TEMPLE. It is located in the jammu city. The place where this temple is situated is called RAGHUNATH BAZAR. It consist of 7 hindu shrines.  HISTORY                   RAGHUNATH TEMPLE was constructed by MAHARAJA GULAAB SINGH in the year 1835 and later his son MAHARAJA RANBIR SINGH completed its construction in the year 1860. This temple has many gods but the presiding deity is LORD RAMA or RAGHUNATH, an avatar of LORD VISHNU. The walls of this temple are decorated with 300 icons of god and godesses including SURYA AND LORD SHIVA.
